Posted on: 08/Apr/2014 12:19:27 PM
With the hoisting of the holy flag at Thiruavinangudi Temple near Malai Adivaram the 10-day ‘Panguni Uthiram’ festival commenced.

At the outset, a special abishekam was performed to dwajasthambam, flag post on the outer mandapam. Gurukkals tied kaapu (holy thread) to Lord Muthukumaraswamy and Goddesses Sri Valli and Sri Deivanai. Later, the God and Goddesses were taken out in a procession around the temple and brought to outer prakaram to witness the flag-hoisting. Special pujas were performed to the holy flag.

With the beating of percussion instruments, Othuvars singing Thevaram songs and Sivachariyars chanting holy hymns, the chief gurukkal hoisted the temple flag that has symbols of holy lance, cock and peacock around 10.30 a.m. After the flag hoisting, the God and Goddesses were mounted on sapparam for ‘thiru ula.’

The celestial wedding of Lord Sri Murugan with Goddess Sri Valli Nayaki will be performed between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on April 12 and the ‘Panguni Uthiram’ holy car procession at 4.30 p.m. on April 13.

The car procession will start from the Padha Vinayagar Temple at Malai Adivaram.

The firecracker festival has been organised near Vaiyapuri Temple tank during the festival days. Cultural programmes, including religious discourses and devotional music and songs, will take place at Kudamuzhukku Mandapam near Malai Adivaram during the festival days.
