Foot Skywalk – Rolls Up Nearby MEPZ

People who are working in and around Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) junction in Tambaram, gets up an alternative foot overbridge to roll up instead of running crisscross the  hectic GST Road, particularly during peak hours.

The steps are pretty good and I can avail my own pace, M.Visalakshi, pedestrian who aged 50 whispered on Sunday.

The construction work of the overbridge has been facilitated in a short time ago, by the highways department. Various amenities includes solar power-driven lights, a public broadcasting system and a CCTV, to pick up video and hoard data up to a month time. Alas, the escalator facility at both of its sides in not yet ready for its function.

Since this foot overbridge is very crucial, as it covers a stretch of around 1.9 lakhs automobiles a day, we have appointed officers to monitor the CCTV and security personnel, said a senior official from the highways department.

Its infrastructure is distinctive from other bridges across the city, said Sunil Sharma, a resident of Rangathapuram nearby MEPZ.

In the interim, the highways department is hurrying up effort to build skywalks in other places including adjacent to SBIOA School next to Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, near Chromepet railway station, in Baby Nagar, Velachery and at Taramani network in the vicinity of MGR Salai junction, Perungudi.
