Clashes during Presidency College Music Festival – Students clash with Deputy Commissioner

Presidency College students conduct annual farewell party when the academic year draws to a close.  They had arranged a musical concert yesterday (4th April). CBI police had already informed the possibility of clashes among students. 

Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Giri, from Triplicane Police Station, along with   squad of 200 police headed by assistant commissioner, Mr. Beer Mohammed collected at the Presidency College locality. 

The music concert started at Presidency College at 11.15 AM. The male students started dancing. The female students also joined in the dancing. The music concert picked up some tempo. However, at 1.00 PM, there was some fight between the student groups. They abused each other. They shouted that they will prove who is superior. 

The regular travelers at MTC bus routes 27H & 29A formed one group. Students of MTC bus routes 2A & 6D formed the second group. They started throwing stones at each other. The female students panicked and started running in all directions. The music concert was stopped. The assistant commissioner tried to nab some of the students who threw stones. Students beat him also. 

Following this, the armed policemen stationed there, Ramesh & Gnanasundaram were injured. Police surrounded the college campus and caught 6 students – Ranjit Singh (17), Tamilkumaran (19), Santhosh (22), Raja (18), Augustin Anand (18), and Arvind (18). 

Former students, Balaji & Manikantan (employees of TCS) were also arrested.
