Curtains are provided in the 3-tier Air-conditioned coaches considering the privacy of the passengers from 2009.

Bangalore-Nanded express caught fire in one of the 3-tier a/c coaches on 28th December, 2013 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. 26 passengers including 2 children travelling in that coach lost their lives. 13 passengers got heavily injured. An enquiry was conducted by Railway Safety Commissioner.

Following this enquiry, a decision has been taken to remove all cyrtains except the window curtains from the 3-tier a/c coaches.

As per a senior Railway official, this decision has been informed to all regional railways. When the coaches are brought to the workshop for maintenance, the curtains will be removed.

In order to strengthen the security & safety measures, a 2-day seminar has been organized by Indian Railways on 24th & 25th April at Delhi. There will be participants from other countries such as Germany, France, Italy, England, and America.
