Kerala – T.N gas project

Energy sectors in Kerala and Tamil Nadu gets facilitated with a 350-km pipeline between Selam and Kochi. The project will be finished by the end of 2015. This will carry Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) between the two spots. The pipeline will have 1.28 million metric tonnees per annum (MMTPA) capacity and it can be expanded up to 1.52 MMTPA. The overall project estimation is approximately Rs 1, 000 crore.
The final call about the project is made further to the approval of Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) on 13th March. This will be carried out by the joint consortium of BPCL and Indian Oil Corporation. The immediate next step will be land acquisition and the project is scheduled for commencement by the end of 2014.
The project will connect bottling plants of IOC, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. The ultimate aim of the project is to reduce the total number of LPG tankers commuting on Kerala roads. On implementation of the project, hundred such tanker lorries are expected to move off the state roads.
