To overcome water shortage, Krihna river water from Andhra Pradesh will reach Chennai though the opening of the Kandaleru dam. Initially, there was very little water flow. Presently, it has picked up. Poondi reservoir is getting water from Krishna River at 500 cubic feet (cft). 1,200 million cubic feet water has bee received up to 10th January. This addition meets the requirement of drinking water for 45 days.
As per the latest information, Puzhal reservoir has 2,141 million cft, Poondi has 586 million cft, Chembarambakkam has 733 million cft, and Cholavaram has 83 million cft.
In addition, there is inflow from the Veeranam lake. Water also flows from the dealination plant.
Chennai gest 600 million cft of water every day. With decent quantity of water in some lakes. The inflow of Krishna river water Metro water can manage supplying 600 million cft.
Hence, sever water shortage may not be there during summer.
