The truckers of the load from Indian Oil Tanking Ltd, in Manali cross the threshold of third day strike on Wednesday. However the oil company officials who have in rerouted the cooking gas from Ennore and Chengalpet plant stated that, the dispute will not bring any bang on the LPG supply to the city.
The
homemakers are worried that if the strike continues, then it will lead to the
shortage in cooking gas supply during Pongal festival. On a meeting with
administration and the transporters during October, it has been decided to
increase the number of truckloads by the Manali unit from 60 to 80 per day. But
it is not implemented yet.
As the
livelihood of the drivers depends on the truckload, the drivers held
discussions with the higher officials of the Indian Oil Corporation on
Wednesday. The discussion ended up without any fruitful results, as the
officials failed to give assurance on an increase in the number of truckloads.
Tamil Nadu
Petroleum Gas Workers Union general secretary K Vijayan said that, the truck
drivers across the state will partake in a dispute from 6am to 8am. The
Federation of LPG Distributors of India also plans to hold a strike against oil
companies from 19 January.
