Many are not aware that how cold it is in Chennai in the wee hours.
Although the minimum temperature was in excess of 20°C over the past five days, mist will continue to descend on some areas for a few days, the Met office said.
“Heavy mist on Thursday morning kept the temperature low,” said Y E A Raj, deputy director general, India Meteorological Department (Chennai).
The cool temperature is due to the low moisture levels, Raj said. “Strong winds from the northwest in the night have added to the chill in the city. The minimum temperature may drop further, but we’ll have to wait and watch,” he said.
Last week, the minimum temperature in the city touched 19.1°C, the lowest in two years. However, the Met office said it will monitor the situation to observe if there is any unusual dip in the temperature.
The Met office said there are five more days left for the northeast monsoon season to officially come to an end, but the rainy season has, for all practical purposes, already come to a close.
