High Rate of Egg, Maida and Oil: Christmas Cake Rate Increases to Rs.200

Christmas and New Year festival�s are celebrated by the people by the practice of giving cake to the friends and relatives, as the symbol of love. In Chennai, a wide variety of cakes are ready for sale for the purpose of gifting one another during these festivals. When compared to last year, the price of the cake has gotten increased in the range of Rs.100 to Rs.200. The reason for this rise is due to increased price of egg, midland oil, which are the main ingredients of the cake. The price reached Rs.400 to Rs.650 per kilo cake.
Mr.V.M. Moiideen, the manager of the �White field� cake shop in Purasaivkam says:
This year the prices of the cakes have reached its peak. The selling rates include: Vennila cake Rs.250 per kg; Pista, Chocolate, Pineapple, Strawberry and nuts variety cakes cost Rs. 300 per kg; Walnet cake, Plum cake and Tea cake is of Rs.300. A single piece of Honey cake is Rs.15 and the same is for a single piece of plum cake.
Full chocolate cake is selling for Rs.350. The home delivery orders are also available.
