Tamil Nadu Secures Rs 12,300 Crore Investment Commitments in London During CM Vijay’s Visit

Tamil Nadu on Monday secured investment commitments totalling Rs 12,300 crore from four companies, with the proposed projects expected to create around 10,000 jobs in the State. The agreements were signed in London during Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s ongoing visit, his first foreign trip after assuming office.

The investment commitments mark the beginning of the Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to attract investments under the new administration and strengthen the State’s position as a major investment destination.

Samvardhana Motherson to Invest Rs 11,000 Crore

The largest investment commitment came from Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd (SMIL). The company, along with its European and UK-based joint venture companies, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu for an investment of approximately Rs 11,000 crore.

The proposed projects will cover design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the projects are expected to create around 7,000 jobs in Tamil Nadu.

Sigma Technology to Expand GCCs in Chennai and Tiruchy

The Tamil Nadu government also secured agreements related to the expansion of global capability centres (GCCs) in the State.

Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group, through its Indian entity Sriya Solutions, plans to expand its global capability centres in Chennai and Tiruchy.

The expansion is expected to create around 600 high-value jobs in areas including embedded systems, digitisation and industrial digitalisation, the CMO said.

EY to Establish GCC in Chennai

In another agreement, UK-headquartered Ernst & Young (EY) signed a deal with Guidance Tamil Nadu to establish a global capability centre in Chennai.

The GCC will be located in the newly announced GCC Corridor on Mount-Poonamallee Road. The facility is expected to attract an investment of around Rs 1,000 crore and generate more than 2,000 high-value jobs.

Wilson Power Solutions Announces Rs 300 Crore Investment

Wilson Power Solutions signed an MoU with Guidance Tamil Nadu for a Rs 300 crore electronics manufacturing investment in Tiruvallur district.

The project is expected to create around 400 jobs in the State and contribute to the growth of Tamil Nadu’s electronics manufacturing sector.

Industrialists Meet CM Vijay

Meanwhile, Ashok Leyland executive chairirman Dheeraj Hinduja, Finolex Industries executive chairman Prakash P Chhabria and director Rita Hinduja-Chhabria met Chief Minister Vijay in London.

They briefed him on the progress of the Rs 2,500 crore investment deal signed during the VETTRI Tamil Nadu Investors Conference held in August.

European Automotive Firm Prefers Tamil Nadu for Rs 3,000 Crore Investment

A leading European automotive components manufacturer has expressed its preference for Tamil Nadu as the destination for a proposed Rs 3,000 crore investment in India, according to the CMO.

However, the State government did not disclose the name of the company.

If finalised, the proposed investment would further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a major destination for automotive and auto-components manufacturing.

London Visit Draws Opposition Criticism

The investment commitments come at a time when the Tamil Nadu government and Chief Minister Vijay are facing scrutiny from opposition parties.

Opposition leaders have criticised the London visit, describing it as a personal tour rather than a trip aimed at attracting investments, as claimed by the State government.

The latest agreements, however, have provided the government with investment commitments worth Rs 12,300 crore, along with an expected 10,000 jobs, as it seeks to attract further investments to Tamil Nadu.
