The historic Mamallapuram Lighthouse in Chengalpattu district has been reopened to tourists after remaining closed for nearly three months due to renovation work.
Located atop a hillock in Mamallapuram, the lighthouse was originally built in 1887 during British rule and is regarded as an important historical landmark. The stone structure has been carefully preserved in its traditional form over the years.
The recent restoration work included:
- Painting and maintenance of the upper portions of the lighthouse
- Installation of new safety railings for visitors
With the renovation now completed, tourists and visitors can once again access one of Mamallapuram’s prominent heritage attractions.
