Guindy Station Redevelopment Nears Completion: Key Upgrades Boost Commuter Convenience
Redevelopment work at Guindy Railway Station under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is nearing completion, with nearly 80% of the project finished at an estimated cost of ₹13.01 crore, according to Southern Railway officials.
Major commuter amenities have already been commissioned, including lifts at Platforms 1, 2, 3, 4, and on the Race Course side, significantly improving accessibility for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and passengers with luggage. Circulating area works on the Race Course side and parking facilities on both the GST Road and Race Course sides have also been completed.
Guindy station serves as a key transit hub for Beach–Chengalpattu EMU services and for passengers accessing Chennai Metro. To strengthen multimodal connectivity, construction of a direct pedestrian foot overbridge linking all EMU platforms to the Guindy Metro Station is under way and expected to be completed within two months.
Officials said 90% of the work on the new booking office has been completed, while a new toilet block and re-roofing of platform shelters are now ready for use.
