In response to the large number of passengers affected by disruptions in IndiGo flight services over the past three days, the Railway Board has announced the addition of extra coaches on major long-distance routes across India.
Extra Coaches Added on 37 Express Trains
According to Southern Railway officials, a total of 116 additional AC and Sleeper coaches will be attached to 37 express trains operating on key national routes. This measure aims to accommodate the sudden rise in passenger demand due to widespread flight cancellations and delays.
Major Routes Covered
Extra coaches will be attached to prominent express services including:
Chennai – Mumbai
Delhi – Chennai
Chandigarh – Bhubaneswar
Howrah routes
Chennai – Coimbatore
Chennai – Tiruchirappalli
Chennai – Kollam
Chennai – Salem
Chennai – Alappuzha
And several other important routes
Effective Dates
The additional coaches will operate from today until December 12.
Railway officials also stated that more special trains may be announced if passenger demand continues to increase.
