With continuous rainfall boosting the inflow, the Water Resources Department (WRD) has increased the surplus water discharge from Chembarambakkam Lake from 500 to 750 cusecs on Thursday morning.
As a precaution, a flood warning has been issued for low-lying areas along the Chembarambakkam surplus canal and Adyar River, including Kundrathur, Sirukalathur, Kavanur, Tirumudivakkam, Vazhuthalambedu, Tiruneermalai, Anagaputhur, Nandambakkam, Saidapet, and Kotturpuram.
The lake’s water level has risen above 21 ft (against its full level of 24 ft), with storage touching 2,926 mcft. To protect the reservoir structure, water is now being released through three sluice gates, flowing into the Adyar River.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
