Don`t be surprised in the future if you come across Ayurvedic, Sidha, Homeopathic, Unani and Yoga naturopathic based treatments being provided along with regular English medicines at the primary health centres or PHC`s across Tamil Nadu!!
The latest news that has come out is that the Department of Public Health in TN has taken a decision to provide traditional medicinal treatments in addition to English medicines at the Primary health care centres across Tamil Nadu.
It is learnt that a memorandum of understanding or MOU has been signed between Indian Medical and Homeopathic Commission and National Institute for Siddha Research.
It is known that there are as many as 6000 PHCs across TN. In these centres, all types of primary care are provided and these include maternal and child care, vaccination services plus life saving medicines are also provided to the patients to avoid serious issues like heart attacks etc. Not only these, vaccinations for snake bites and dog bites are also given.
Preliminary tests are being done to detect kidney damage and measures have been taken to provide dialysis treatments for these kidney damaged patients at 50 locations.
It must be noted that apart from providing Nilavembu water for dengue fever and Kabasura water for viral fevers the Public Health Dept does not promote any other medicinal practices. Point is that all the medical services are being provided to the patients on the basis of English medical treatments called Allopathy. In this scenario, it was planned to implement the public health services by combining all Indian medical systems.
It is now mentioned that this initiative of combining all the medical systems would act as a bridge between Indian and English medicine. This was as per some officials from the Public Health Dept.
