Due to ongoing renovation work at Chennai Egmore Railway Station, Southern Railway has temporarily shifted several train services to Tambaram. This includes five express trains and changes to six suburban (electric) train services between Tambaram and Chennai Beach.
Railways remain a preferred mode of transport across India, with increasing passenger traffic owing to affordable fares and safe travel. To ensure safety and improve infrastructure, periodic maintenance and renovation works are carried out. In this context, Southern Railway has announced several adjustments in train services.
Five Express Trains Shifted to Tambaram
Starting from June 18, the following express trains, which were earlier operated from Chennai Egmore, will now depart from Tambaram:
Egmore – Kollam Express
Egmore – Madurai Express
Egmore – Mannargudi Express
Egmore – Thiruchendur Express
Egmore – Guruvayur Express
Changes in Suburban (Electric) Train Timings
Several changes have been made in the suburban electric train schedule:
- The coast to Tambaram train will now depart at 12:15 PM instead of 4:25 AM.
- The Chengalpattu to Tambaram train will depart at 9:50 AM.
- The Tambaram to Gummidipoondi train will now leave at 10:50 AM, five minutes later than the earlier 10:45 AM.
Revised Timings for Tambaram-bound Trains from Chennai Beach
- The train from Chennai Beach to Tambaram will now depart at 11:52 AM instead of 11:55 AM.
- The 12:02 PM train from Beach to Tambaram will now depart at 12:10 PM.
- The 12:28 PM train from Beach to Chengalpattu will now depart at 12:25 PM.
Weekday-only Train Changes
- The Arakkonam to Beach train arriving at 7:30 AM will now start its return journey from Tambaram at 9:40 AM (earlier 9:45 AM).
These changes apply only to weekday services (Monday to Saturday). Sunday services remain unchanged, except for one additional special train that will operate in both directions between Chennai Beach and Tambaram.
