The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to begin construction of a landmark transit-oriented development at Phase II Thirumangalam Metro Station, inspired by global models like Kokura Station in Japan and Chongqing in China.
The project, spread across 3.85 acres near the existing Phase I station and Anna Nagar West Depot, will feature four integrated towers combining metro access with retail, dining, and office spaces making it a first-of-its-kind urban mobility and commercial hub in the city.
Project Highlights:
Tower B will house the metro station, with the concourse on the 3rd floor and platforms on the 4th.
Towers A, B & C will include retail stores on the ground floor, mall-like commercial areas on floors 1–2, and office spaces from floors 5–9.
Tower D will have two upper floors with additional commercial options.
Towers A & C will feature 3 basements, a ground floor, and 9 upper floors.
According to T. Archunan, Director (Projects), CMRL, the design reflects best practices in transit-oriented development (TOD), aiming to create a seamless experience where people can work, shop, relax, and catch a train just by switching floors.
This initiative is part of CMRL’s broader vision to integrate urban development with public transport and reduce commute time while enhancing lifestyle convenience.
