Heatwave Continues in Tamil Nadu; Rainfall Likely in Isolated Areas

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai has forecast that hot weather conditions will persist across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next two days, with isolated rainfall expected in some areas.

In a bulletin issued on Thursday, the RMC noted that above-normal temperatures were reported in several districts. “Due to prevailing weather conditions, isolated pockets in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are very likely to experience heat and discomfort,” the statement said.

Weather blogger K Srikanth, who runs the popular page Chennai Rains, commented, “Though temperatures may be marginally lower than in recent days, hot afternoons are still expected across most parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and its suburbs. Dry weather will likely continue today (June 6), with convective thunderstorms expected to make a return from tomorrow.”

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai`s Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7°C (99.86°F) on Wednesday, following 38.8°C (101.84°F) on Tuesday — marking the third consecutive day of extreme heat in the city. On Thursday, the heat intensified further, with 11 districts across the state crossing 100°F.
