Distributing 3 months rice, wheat in one single instalment at the ration shops in TN!!
It is well known that the Tamil Nadu ration shops have been providing free rice to as many as 2.27 lakh rice card holders every month.
For as many as 1.11crores priority and antyodaya card holders 2.05lakhs tonne rice and 8576 tonne of wheat is being provided across the state of TN.
It is worthy to note that during the last season across India large amounts of rice and wheat have been procured from the farmers. Storing rice and wheat in the warehouses has become difficult due to excess supply.
In this situation, the Central government has instructed the state governments to provide rice and wheat for the months of June, July and August to priority and Antyodaya card holders in a single instalment.
Point to be noted is that the TN government has agreed to buy 3 months worth of goods from the Central government but it has not come forward to supply these in ration.
Now, the TN government has decided to provide 3 months worth of rice and wheat in a single instalment to the rice cardholders at the ration shops across TN.
Information collected is that TN government is only bearing the cost of 1.10 cr non-priority cardholders in the rice category. The government officials are considering providing 3 months supply in June or July.
