About 24000 aspirants from TN appeared for the UPSC Preliminary examinations yesterday!!

Union Public Service Commission or UPSC conducts examinations for 21 types of posts that include IAS. IPS, IRS etc. Yesterday, 25th May 2025, the preliminary or first stage examination for civil services posts like IAS, IPS etc took place and about 6lakhs aspirants appeared for the examinations across entire India.  In TN alone, about 24000 aspirants took the examinations. It must be noted that the students were allowed to write the exams only after strict screening at the exam halls.

On 22nd of January 2025, the notification for filling up of 979 posts in the civil services for 2025 was announced is well known. Point is that the deadline for receiving the application was extended till 11th of February 2025.

Across India, more than 12 lakhs graduates have applied for the examination. Out of these 6lakhs aspirants were allowed to appear for preliminary examination yesterday. In TN alone, 24364 wrote the examinations. It was already announced by UPSC that the preliminary examinations would be held on 25th of May 2025.

In as many as 79 cities across India, the preliminary examinations took place yesterday. In TN, the preliminary examinations were held in cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai and Vellore etc.

In Chennai, the exams took place in Egmore Girls Higher Secondary School, Jaigopal Garodia School in Anna Nagar, Purasawalkam, Villivakkam etc. Information collected is that at the Egmore Girls Higher secondary School, arrangements were made for the differently able candidates to write the preliminary examinations.

Details about test schedule and question papers etc:

From 9:30am till 11:30 am, a general knowledge test was held and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm aptitude test was held. The questions were in the objective format.

The results of UPSC Preliminary examinations would be announced in 15 days. This was as per Shankar IAS Academy MD, Dr. S.T. Vaishnavi. The candidates who have cleared the preliminary exams would be allowed to appear for the main examination. For a total of 5 days, the main examination would take place and it would begin from 22nd of August 2025. In TN, main exams would take place in Chennai alone and the successful candidates would be called for a direct interview. Those candidates who are successful in the interview would be allotted jobs. It must be taken into account that for the sake of convenience for those who appeared for the preliminary exams special buses/ trains were operated.
