Widespread rainfall across various parts of Chennai yesterday morning brought much-needed respite from the intense summer heat, leaving the weather cool and pleasant.
The city has been enduring the peak of Agni Nakshatram (also known as Kathiri Veyil), the hottest period of the summer season. Since the beginning of May, scorching temperatures have caused significant discomfort for residents. While sporadic light to moderate rains had occurred earlier due to thermal convection, they provided little relief.
However, yesterday’s downpour was more widespread, with showers reported in several areas, including Guindy, Ekkatuthangal, Koyambedu, Thiruvallikeni (Triplicane), Ashok Nagar, Vadapalani, Nungambakkam, Thiruvottiyur, Adyar, Pattinam Pakkam, Medavakkam, and Taramani.
The rain has significantly reduced the oppressive heat, bringing a welcome change in weather conditions. Meteorological experts suggest that similar weather patterns may continue in the coming days, offering further relief from the summer swelter.
Residents have expressed their delight at the cooler temperatures, hoping for more such showers to alleviate the ongoing heatwave. Authorities have advised people to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during sudden rains.
