Important news regarding acquiring additional lands for setting up of Parandur airport in Chennai!!
For setting up of the second airport in Parandur in Chennai, an additional 8.5acres of land would be acquired.
Why is Parandur airport necessary now?
It is noteworthy that the number of passengers has been increasing at the airport in Chennai now. In the future, this could lead to issues in handling additional passengers and cargo etc. As a result, the TN govt wanted to establish a second airport at Parandur in Chennai.
At several localities in Chennai, the possibilities of setting up a second airport were considered. The Union as well as TN govt later mentioned that the second airport would be set up at Parandur in Kancheepuram district.
Though the local people objected to this the TN govt has been keen on setting up a second airport in Parandur. Information is that the Parandur airport would be set up with a massive amount of Rs 29150 crores through TIDCO Company.
Point to be noted is that in Parandur and in the nearby 13 villages 5300 acres of lands would be acquired in the coming days. For this second airport project, villages like Ekanapuram and Nagapattu would be acquired. About 3700 acres of land would be acquired by the TN govt.
In this scenario, another 8.5 acres of land would be acquired for the second airport in Parandur. It is learnt that an announcement was also made regarding acquisition of 8.5 acres of land at Nelvai Village in Kancheepuram on behalf of Industry and investment Promotion Dept. House lands present in 196 survey numbers would be acquired. In several phases, the lands are being acquired for this second airport project that would be implemented on 5746 acres of lands
In January 2026, the construction works in the first phase of the Parandur airport would start and steps are being taken now.
