No Amma mineral water in long distance buses

Posted on: 24/Sep/2013 11:54:09 AM
Passengers travelling by long distance buses in Tamil Nadu now have an economic option to quench their thirst. In a novel scheme, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa recently launched the sale of Amma Mineral Water priced at just Rs 10 per litre bottle. The scheme was launched on the occasion of the 105th birth anniversary of Dravidian stalwart and former Chief Minister C N Annadurai. Jayalalithaa also inaugurated the water production unit set up by the Institute of Road Transport at Gummidipoondi near Chennai through video conferencing facility. The unit has been established in an area of 2.47 acres. The plant has the capacity to produce three lakh litres of water a day. The packaged drinking water will be available in 1 litre units. It will be available in all long-distance government buses and bus terminals in Chennai and other districts.

But the problem now is that the plant is able to produce only one laksh litre of water since there is some technical problems with the three units. Because of this proper supply of mineral water bottles is not made to the 304 stalls in Tamilnadu. Efforts are being made to increase the production of water. So far water is not supplied in long distance buses putting the passengers in the lurch.
