Advocate bashes up a MTC bus driver at Anna Square

There was a clash between a group of advocates and bus crew members at Anna Square. An advocate allegedly assaulted a driver (route no. 2A) near Central Railway Station as he apparently did not give way for his bike to overtake the bus. About a dozen advocates had trailed the bus up to Anna Square bus stand and thrashed the driver and a staff on the bus stand with slippers.
The MTC staff alleged that the advocates were drunk and they mercilessly attacked the driver using their footwear and tore his dress.
After the attack, the MTC bus drivers staged a protest by halting the buses on the Beach Road disrupting traffic for nearly 30 minutes in the evening.
A police beat constable saw this. Upon seeing the police constable, the advocate started running but was nabbed. �We have obtained a certificate to prove he was drunk,� said a senior police officer.
