Jobless people due to ban in rare earth mineral mining

As the state has banned the mining of rarely found earth minerals like Garnet or Ilmenite, about fifty thousand individuals are left jobless. This includes 30,000 direct employees and the remaining are indirect ones. These are people from Tuticorin, Kanyakumari and Thirunelveli.
Several beach mineral mining industries started emerging before two decades. Out of the thousand hectares land, the excavation work was carried out at about 650 hectares of land and these were controlled mainly by two major business groups.
