Here comes a superb piece of information for the Kolathur residents!!
In future, if you come across a foot over bridge or FOB with escalators and elevators at the 4 way Senthil Nagar junction on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai or IRR/Inner Ring Road, ten don`t be surprised!!
It is now brought to light that the State Highways Dept would be constructing a new FOB at the above said place in the Kolathur constituency of the CM of Tamil Nadu.
Features:
This FOB would be constructed at a cost of Rs 13.54 crores and it would have square crossing with elevators and escalators etc. According to a senior officer from the Highways department, the pedestrian facility would be a 5m wide walkway across the carriageway and 3.2m wide stairs on either side of carriageway, escalators and lift on both sides of carriageway. At the lift entrance on both sides, ramps would be provided for the differently able persons.
It was confirmed by a tender document from the Highways dept that the number of pedestrians during the peak hour traffic is around 1004.Point is that the observed value of cycle time of the traffic signal is 135 seconds. There is now huge demand for an uninterrupted flow of traffic in this 4 way junction as it is an important connecting road for arterial roads in Chennai.
From the resident belonging to Teachers Colony in Kolathur it was clear that FOIB would help the pedestrians cross the road easily without waiting for the signal/speeding vehicles etc.
