As the price of tomato per kg crossed the Rs. 100/- mark, the consumers have been socked!
Tomato is one of the most important and daily used items in everyday cooking! Tomato is grown in the districts of Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Erode, Namakkal, Dindigul and others. Further, Tomato also arrives by transport from the neighbouring states of Andhra, Telangana, and Karnataka.
As there was a reduction in the growth/yield of tomatoes, the prices have been increasing ever since the year 2011! In the wholesale vegetable, fruit and flower market at Chennai metro City Koyambedu, tomato which was sold at the price of Rs. 60/- per kg on wholesale day-before-yesterday (Sunday, 25th June), was sold at Rs. 80/- per kg yesterday (Monday, 26th June).
