Along the 10km Porur to Poonamallee stretch, CMRL has completed the metro phase 2 construction works. As a result, the blus barricades that have been placed on the roads are being removed now to give more space for the movement of the motorists etc.

It is worthy to mention that along the 350km stretch between Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Porur and Iyyappanthangal bus depot barricades have been removed. It is now brought out that CMRL has installed viaducts on most parts of the 10km stretch and soon ballastless tracks would be laid. By the year 2026, the 118.9km phase-2 would be ready for public use.

According to a Porur resident,  it was good that the barricades had been removed by CMRL authorities. He was unhappy regarding the construction dust that is present even now.

It must be recalled that Mr. M.A. Siddique, MD of CMRL had mentioned previously that in a year the construction of pillars in the elevated corridors would be completed and then the barricades would be removed to provide more space for the movt of the vehicles.

In 2025, the elevated line from the Powerhouse in Kodambakkam to Poonamallee might be the first to open along with the maintenance depot. Mr. Girirajan, CMRL spokesperson had mentioned that by the end of 2023 the space occupied by blue barricades would be reduced on the 10km Porur- Poonamallee stretch.

As per an official from CMRL it was clear that after the installation of viaducts and tracks would be laid on Porur - Poonamallee line. This would be followed by testing and by the construction of the elevated corridors. More road space would not be needed as the work would be done on the top of an elevated line. He concluded that the barricades between the metro station sites on the road would be removed.
