The Tamil Nadu government distributed Pongal gifts (including Rs 1000 as cash) recently for the people in the state and it was brought out that 4.4lakhs haven`t yet received it. In this scenario, the Rs 44 crores that was allotted to the people has been added to the treasury of the government.
It was announced by the chief minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. MK. Stalin that for Pongal festival family ration card holders plus Sri Lankan Tamil families living in the camps in TN would be provided Rs 1000 as cash plus rice, sugar and whole sugarcane etc as Pongal gift. It is worthy to note that orders were issued for procurement of sugarcane, rice and sugar etc. For cash of Rs 1000 and for other items, a huge amount of Rs 2430 crores was allotted.
Information gathered is that 2crore 18lakhs 86123 eligible family ration card holders were allotted Rs 1000 each. Beginning from 9th of January 2023 till 13th of January 2023, Pongal gifts were distributed to the people.
Now, it has been found out that in TN as many as 4.39lakhs people have not received their Pongal gift (includes Rs 1000 cash) from the government. In south Chennai, out of 10.39lakh family cards 49538 family card holders and in north Chennai, out of 10.18 family cards 35723 family card holders have not received the Pongal gifts.
In the same manner, in Kancheepuram 8026 family card holders and 10263 family card holders in Chengalpet and 8874 in Thiruvallur have not received their Pongal gift package.
The pongal gift package was supposed to be received by as many as 2 crore 18lakhs 86123 people in TN but only 2 crores 14lakhs 46454 people have received the Pongal gift package from the TN govt. Point is that 4lakhs 39669 family card holders did not receive the gift package.
