Those who travel by metro trains in Chennai would feel delighted with the launch of NCMC!!
National Common Mobility Card or NCMC that could be used by the metro train commuters in several cities to travel, shopping and parking etc would be available from the month of December onwards. This was mentioned by CMRL.
To help the commuters travel at ease and to use it to pay for their travel in the metro trains, MTC buses and suburban trains plus pay their parking fees etc, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched the 1 Nation 1 Card initiative. The card is now ready and it will be launched at the end of December. This was according to some officials from CMRL.
In the beginning, NCMC would be issued to new users only and the commuters could continue to use the existing travel card. Identity proof is necessary to get an NCMC card. It was then mentioned by an official that the issues with the banks would be sorted out in a month`s time.
National Payment Corporation of India issued a certificate to CMRL recently regarding the presence of all infrastructure that would be needed before launching the card. It is now said that when suburban trains and MTC also introduce their cards then the commuters would have to carry just one single card to pay the fares.
For facilitating the use of NCMC and QR code ticket at all gates, the CMRL would re-engineer the automatic fare collection gates or AFC in phase-1 extension network from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar. Just a few gates in the phase-1 extension stations accept NCMC and QR code tickets now.
The important piece of information is that in the phase-1 project that runs to a length of 45km all AFC gates have been re- calibrated to accept NCMC and QR code tickets.
