The residents belonging to southern parts of Chennai have now got a reason to rejoice!!
The government hospital situated in Chromepet would become a district hospital in the future as it would be upgraded. An amount of RS 125 crores has been allotted for upgradation works. It is learnt that the number of beds here would be increased to 500 and a separate wing for outpatients would be built also.
The superb piece of information is that there would be a separate block for orthopaedics care and due to this the patients need not go too far away to General Hospital for treatment.
The mortuary in the Chromepet hospital at present can store just 10 dead bodies and it would be upgraded to store 50 dead bodies. This govt hospital in Chromepet is the only GH in the southern suburbs of Chennai and it has been here since 1974 onwards.
Every day around 1500 patients come to Chromepet hospital for treatment and this important hospital caters to several residents situated around 30km radius. Every month, around 300 newborns are recorded. The residents belonging to nearby localities like Pallavaram, Tambaram, Selaiyur, Sembakkam, Perungalathur, Chromepet, Alandur and Sriperumbudur taluk would have superb advantage once this hospital gets upgraded to district hospital. Many residents here have mentioned that they need not have to go far distance GH for getting treatment if Chromepet hospital gets upgraded.
There are plans to construct 5 floors at the govt hospital in Chromepet and this was according to an official source belonging to the hospital here. In January 2023, the construction would begin. It must be noted that the Chrompet hospital would continue to function at the same place even during the construction work.
It must not be forgotten that when the TN govt announced Chengalpet and Kancheepuram as 2 separate districts the government hospital at Chromepet came under Chengalpet district administration.
