It is humanly impossible for anyone to bear a bad smell or stench for a long time!!

The bitter truth is that the residents belonging to Iyyappanthangal have been bearing the stench now and are finding it very difficult. Western neighbourhood of Chennai, Iyyappanthangal come sunder Mangadu Municipality of CMA.

In Dhanalakshmi Nagar here, dumping of meat waste has been leading to unbearable stench. It has become a common scene these days in this locality to see dogs and pigs eating the meat waste.

It was brought to light by a resident activist here that in the last month meat shop owners began dumping the meat waste in an empty plot in Dhanalakshmi Nagar. After it rained and coupled with mounting garbage the stench has become unbearable here.

It is learnt that the locality is being used by commuters from EVP Park Avenue, VGN Nagar, Ashok Brindavan Nagar, Subbiah Nagar and Noombal. There is also a private school located here. In addition to meat waste and garbage, many even dump sanitary waste also.

It is really shocking to mention that atleast 50 uncovered sanitary napkins are lying here all the time. One resident spoke about how he had temporarily shifted to his relative`s house in Mambalam as the stench was unbearable.  Many meat shops in the locality don`t even have a proper license to run the shop.

The meat shop owners continue to run their business in small makeshift outlets. There are always pieces of chicken and fish strewn on the road. Clearing the road has become an issue as dogs attack those who try to clean the road here.

An inspection would be conducted on Thursday and necessary action would be taken. This was pointed out by a sanitary inspector. He concluded that his department has received many complaints from the residents here.
