Shocking news about the engineering colleges in TN

Posted on: 08/Aug/2022 10:03:04 AM
Infrastructures such as labs, faculty members and classrooms are very important and colleges get affiliations based on these. It is now revealed that 18 engineering colleges in TN might lose their affiliations with Anna University or AU for 2022/23 as these infrastructures have been found lacking in these 18 engineering colleges.

It is true that these shortcomings have been notified a month back itself and yet these colleges have not taken any action regarding this.

Based on the compliance report submitted to them, the university has decided to grant affiliation to 207 engg colleges in Tamil Nadu. These colleges were issued notices for the gaps in their infrastructure are well known. Physical inspection was conducted by AU in the May and June months in 2022in 476 engineering colleges, standalone architectural colleges and those colleges offering MCA and MBA etc. It has been found that these 207 engineering colleges had 50percent deficiency in infrastructure and faculty members and hence AU issued notices.

Vice-chancellor of AU, Mr. R .Velraj explained that these colleges were issued a time of 4weeks to sort out the issue regarding labs, classrooms and faculty members etc and submit compliance reports.

Fact is that the report submitted by 18 engg colleges were unsatisfactory and hence they were issued fresh showcase notices. The vice chancellor then mentioned that the colleges have another 10 days to update their college infrastructure. Based on their compliance reports, the experts have decided to give extension of approval to the rest of the colleges.

In the 4weeks that were issued to the engineering colleges, no improvement was shown by these colleges and hence 18 engg colleges would not be given affiliation. It must be noted that 3 engg colleges that did not enrol any students in the last 3 years were asking for extension of approval.

These colleges would find it tough in improving their infrastructure within a short time and this was as per a professor belonging to Anna University. If the institution does not file any compliance report on time, then the university has the capacity to de-affiliate a course or college or reduce the seats.
