What is really going on at Pallavaram Lake that has angered many residents now?

The National Green Tribunal has already given orders regarding letting out untreated sewage water into the lakes. The big issue now is that Tambaram Corporation (despite of order) has been continuously letting out untreated sewage water into the lakes present in the locality. This was mentioned by some activists in Pallavaram.

The civic workers have let the sewage into the canal near 200feet Radial Road near Kovilambakkam and because of that the untreated sewage enters into the Narayanapuram lake. Truth is that the civic body has been doing similar kinds of activities.

For the last few days, the sewage pumping station located near Keelkattalai Lake that is located in the upstream of Narayanapuram Lake has not been functioning properly. The sewage that is collected in Pallavaram is pumped to the Perungudi sewage treatment plant by the pumping station. This was as per an activist named Mr. Manaoharan.

The activist spoke about how this dumping has been going on despite the National Green Tribunal having passed orders regarding sewage and solid waste mismanagement by the local body. It must be remembered that a few days back the civic body diverted the untreated sewage into the Keelkattalai Lake by letting it into the canal.

Sewage flow could be witnessed by anyone in the outflow canal of Keelkattalai Lake that runs through the Kovilambakkam to Narayanapuram Lake. It was rectified after a day. It is learnt that the underground sewage system in the Pallavaram is not fully functional. Strict action would be taken against those who have let sewage into the lake.
