Geographic information service or GIS service would be put into use by GCC!!
By using GIS, those properties that are under assessment would be identified by GCC in Chennai. From January to March 203, work on revising the property tax for under- assessed properties would be done. By this initiative, the revenue of GCC would increase. Yesterday, the Corporation council passed a resolution permitting initiatives for improving its own sources of revenue or OSR based on the Chennai City Partnership Programme.
It is learnt that GCC has obtained data from Tangedco regarding commercial properties that have been paying property tax amounts as per residential rates. By February 2023, the work regarding revising the property rates for these would get over. By October month in 2022, the GCC would start collecting property taxes from the buildings that have mobile phone towers. To increase their revenue from professional tax, the GCC would get data from the Registrar of Companies.
By March 2023, work on identification of trades that are not covered under tax would be completed. To improve the trade licensing system, GIS would be playing its role. By utilising street infrastructures at 8000 locations, advertisement revenue would be increased. In Chennai, there would be more spaces for vehicle parking also.
