High price has been quoted by Aavin for the infrastructural developmental works is known. The Union government has mentioned that the price quoted by Aavin was higher than the prevailing rates. The news is that now Aavin has given instructions to district milk unions to revise the estimation immediately.

To increase Aavins capacity to chill, process and test milk, several projects have been proposed under NPDD or National Programme for Dairy Development from 2021-22 to 2023-24. This scheme was sponsored by NDDB or National Dairy Development Board. For setting up of bulk milk coolers, automatic collection units, for procuring milk analyser and other materials for labs and dairies etc, proposals have been sent to the centre. This was a part of the project.

On 30th May 2022, the state technical management committee took part in a meeting. Based on this meeting, Mr. C. Sen, Union Deputy Commissioner, Dept of Animal Husbandry and Dairying had sent a letter to Aavin on 31st of May 2022.In the letter he had mentioned that 2 different costs of Rs 4.5 lakhs and Rs 4.7 lakhs have been quoted for buying milk analysers.

The letter also brought to light about how Rs 2.5 lakh quoted for each automatic milk collection centre was higher than the market price. This has shown several discrepancies in the proposal made by Aavin. To test the milk quality at district milk unions, about 154 milk analysers have been proposed. .Information is that on 31st May, the state animal husbandry officers held a meeting and decided to revise the estimation.

It is noteworthy that after the MD of Aavin instructed the district milk unions to revise the cost the cost of milk analyser has been reduced to Rs 3.85 lakhs from the proposed Rs 4.7 lakhs per unit. From Rs 2.5 lakh, automatic milk cooler cost was reduced to Rs 1.36 lakhs.

It is worthy to mention here that the estimated cost for setting up a bulk cooler of 5000 litres capacity was cut from Rs 21.95 lakhs to Rs 18 lakhs now.  In the same way, for 3000 litres coolers the estimated cost was cut from Rs 19.39 lakhs to Rs 16 lakhs.
