Warning from Greater Chennai Corporation: Failure to pay property tax on time may lead to confiscation!

The Greater Chennai Corporation has issued a warning that failure to pay Property Tax on time may lead to the confiscation of the concerned property!

The Property Tax was increased in Tamil Nadu recently! Though strong opposition was expressed on this, the State Government did not back out from this increased Property Tax right till the end!

Property Tax is one of the most important avenues for the revenue of the Greater Chennai Corporation!

As such, GCC decided to act on the citizens who default on Property Tax Payments!

As such, action was taken to seal the premises where the Property Tax was overdue!

Continuing on this, GCC has further made a list of citizens who have Property Tax dues of over Rs. 10 Lakhs.

The action was initiated to confiscate the concerned properties where the payment of Property Tax was long overdue as per the Corporation Municipal Act!

Accordingly, the premises where Property Tax has been long overdue with substantial amounts have been sealed including 3 Marriage Halls, 1 Cinema Theatre, 1 Hospital, 4 Commercial Complexes and 107 trading markets. Further, the premises of 63 major companies were given confiscation notice! As such, activities were taken for the offenders to pay the Property Tax immediately and settle the issue!

With the above stringent action, it is observed that many of the long-pending owners who have not paid the Property Tax have paid the due amount!

As such, a revenue of more than Rs. 40 Crores of Property Tax have been earned in the last 15 days!!

The GCC officials have informed that since April 2022 in the current Financial Year (2022-23), Rs. 220.64 Crores has been collected as Property Tax!!
