Chennai has got as many as 471 bus route roads and around 40000 interior roads!!
Several damaged roads in Chennai that have not been re-laid for the last 5 years have been identified by Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC. It is now brought out that these damaged roads would be repaired at a cost of Rs 400 crores.
The GCC would take up road relaying work this year as the announcement from the municipal administration minister in the Assembly. This was mentioned by the Chennai Corporation commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh.
Point is that GCC has asked various zones to prepare a list of roads that have been damaged and those that were more than 5 years old would be given preference for re-laying. He added that a presentation would be made regarding the condition of the roads and tendering process would be carried out after getting sanction from the government.
The residents are not happy regarding the damaged roads in their localities and they have demanded relaying of interior roads. Information is that the councillors in 200 wards would prepare a priority list of 200 damaged roads. The roads that have not been re-laid for more than 5 years would be identified by the resident associations.
Twenty percent of the fund amount would be used for relaying roads along the bus routes and around Rs 325 crores would be used for relaying of interior roads. It is known that at present more than 600 roads are being re-laid in various places belonging to Chennai.
