Smart bike rental services to be available at nights too in Chennai!!

If the Coronavirus pandemic has led to hike in the rentals of smart bikes or bicycles in Chennai, then the scorching summer heat has led to reduction in the rentals now!!
The GCC officials are thinking differently now and there are chances that smart bikes could be available even in the night time also. In 2021, the smart bike rentals dropped drastically and GCC drew an average of 300 to 400 smart bike rentals per day in March month. On the weekends, there were around 800 smart bike rentals per day. The sensational piece of information is that it even touched 900 on Sunday.
Now the GCC officials are having fear that the peak summer season would result in reduction in the rentals once again. It was mentioned by an official source belonging to GCC that rental services would be used in the nights also in a phased manner. In the beginning, localities like OMR and Pondy Bazaar would have the night rental services. It is true that GCC is having discussions with CMRL regarding location identification of 25 new stations for the purpose of last mile connectivity.
The locations have been identified already and soon all the locations along green and blue lines would be covered. This was pointed out by an official. To study areas where the cycle sharing system is performing better when compared to other areas, GCC has been categorising the docking stations at various locations. Based on the number of rentals, the stations would be split into A, B and C categories. It has been found that the localities that have highest demand were Marina Beach, Pondy Bazaar and Mannady metro station.
It was brought to light by IT professionals that many people have been buying bikes instead of opting for rented bikes. He hinted that it is very important to maintain smart bikes to avoid breaking down.
