Why is the Tambaram Eastern Bypass Project making news now?

Posted on: 19/Apr/2022 9:28:51 AM
Rajakilpakkam and Peerkankaranai would be connected by the Tambaram Eastern bypass project is a known fact.

The residents belonging to Selaiyur and its nearby places have been complaining about the poor implementation of this above said project. From Camp Road junction to Mappedu junction, there are no streetlights and this has been making the lives of many residents very difficult. In addition, cement blocks have been present on the roads and due to this the road width has been reduced plus garbage is strewn all over.

It must be taken into account that the Tambaram Eastern Bypass project has been laid till Selaiyur. It was pointed out by the highways department that the road work was finished in the Selaiyur stretch. The condition of service lane, street lights and centre meridian etc are still not up to the mark here. Point is that the work is carried out bits and pieces by various agencies without any proper coordination between them. The work should have been over by this time if it was done properly and this was according to a resident.

There is heavy traffic congestion in Perungalathur now and when the Tambaram Eastern Bypass project gets over the traffic congestion would become less. Residents belonging to south Chennai localities like Velachery, Nanganallur, Madipakkam, Thiruvanmiyur and Adyar etc would get benefitted as they would be able to reach the bypass by taking a direct right turn from Medavakkam.

It is worthy to note that now the vehicles pass through Perungalathur and this has been leading to traffic jams. There has been no advancement in the work near Mappedu junction. There has been no service road near Rajakilpakkam, Camp Road Junction, Indira Nagar, Sri Ranganathan Nagar, Sathyamoorthy Nagar and Mappedu Junction. Land acquisition issue has been responsible for the delay in the completion and this was mentioned by an officer belonging to the Highways department.
