Posted on: 18/Apr/2022 9:57:37 AM
An order issued by the HRMD dated 11th April 2022 has stated that the TN government after careful consideration has decided to suspend the periodical surrender of EL for encashment for 15days every year or 30 days after every 2 years under the rule 7A of TN Leave Rules 1993 until further orders to all government employees and teachers.

It is worthy to note that this order would be applicable to all constitutional or statutory bodies including all the state corporations/local bodies / boards / universities / commission / companies / institutions and societies etc. Point is that the amendment to Rule 7A of the TN Leave Rules 1993 in this regard would be issued separately. Tihs was brought out by the order that was issued by Mythili Rajendran, secretary to government, state HRM. It must not be forgotten that on 13th May 2021 a similar order was issued by the TN government and as per the order leave encashment was suspended till 31st March 2022. The reasons were continuous onslaught of Coronavirus infection and fiscal stress.

In 2020, the Tamil Nadu government had first suspended encashment of surrendered EL for government employees is a known fact. In 2020, the chief minister of TN Mr. Edapadi Palaniswamy suspended EL encashment due to financial stress caused by Covid-19 infection pandemic.
