Truth is that there are many injured and sick animals in the animal shelters and the above said ambulance service is very useful. Every day, atleast 8 to 10 animals get treated onsite in an ambulance. Point is that the animals would be nursed at the shelter if they need shelter and extra care. After the ambulance service was launched, more than 300 animals were treated and this was according to Dr. Anshul Shukla, chief veterinarian of BCI.
To treat the injured animals in Chennai, there are 3 or 4 rescue vehicles also there. Information is that treatment for the animals would be done onsite or at the shelters depending on the video or photo sent by the public regarding the wounded stray animal.
The contact number is 99629 98886 and the public could contact the number regarding treatment for the injured stray animals in Chennai.
Various things that are available in the ambulance are a treatment table, inverter, fans, bridge, drawers for keeping bandages and sterilised items, medicines, stretcher trolly, oxygen cylinder,2 removable cages to hold dogs and dog catching equipment etc.
As per a senior officer belonging to BCI, in the past when a stray dog was injured on the road it was taken to a nearby veterinary hospital for treatment. Now, animals could be treated even in front of those who had rescued them.
