Water can be directly used from the taps for drinking as well as for cooking!! Sounds incredible right!!

Round-the-clock drinking water supply would be available in the 2 important Adyar zone and Kodambakkam zone.

The news is that CMWSSB would be implementing 24 hour drinking water supply in these 2 zones of GCC on a pilot basis. This was brought to light by Mr. K. N. Nehru, municipal administration and water supplies minister for TN at the Assembly on Thursday. He added that the 24hours water supply scheme would be implemented in these 2 zones at a cost of Rs 1958.25 crores.

It is said that CMWSSB would improve the existing water distribution infrastructure just similar to that in Puri in Odisha state. Point is that overhead tanks would be built to supply water with uniform pressure. Boundary valves would be sealed, piped networks to other areas would be disconnected and these would be done by dividing the streets as metered areas. The public living in the tail end areas of the network would not be left out and they would also get drinking water supply by this superb scheme. Now, DPR is being prepared to implement this project in Thiru VI ka Nagar zone in Chennai.

It is worthy to note that CMWSSB would link water conveyance networks between water sources that are located in several places in the Chennai city with a ring main system. Regarding linking of all source points like water treatment plants, desalination plants and distribution plants etc, a detailed project report would be prepared soon. By this, transfer of water from any one of the sources like Minjur, Redhills, Nemmeli, Chembarambakkam would be possible during the maintenance works or whenever one source is absent. In the future, feasibility studies would be carried out to tap new sources in and around Chennai.
