The price of electrical and other construction items has shot up drastically in Chennai now!!

Next time you visit an electrical shop in Chennai be ready to shell out more money from your pocket!
Recently, the copper that is being used in electrical products like LED bulbs, wires, air-conditioners etc have shot up by 8% to 12%. It must be noted that in 2019 one square wire or one box was sold at Rs 550 in Chennai but now it costs Rs 850. Point to be noted is that the customers have shifted to solar panels and even the cost of the solar panels has increased from Rs 10000 from last week to Rs 10800 now. Mr. Nagalingam, general secretary, TN Electrician Wel-fare Association spoke about how compared to actual price of the electrical item it was the tax amount that was creating a huge burden for the customers.
He then explained how quotation of Rs 1lakh was given for electrical items for a two storey building and how he was asked to buy the items from neighbouring districts or from a distributor for lesser rates. It is now said that the hike in the prices of electrical items and plumbing has stopped the construction of the building. To resume the construction works again, many customers wait for the price of the electrical products to come down. There are some customers who now use cheaper electrical items than the expensive branded ones also.
The plumbing items have doubled in the last 2 years and from Rs 50 the cost of a tap has shot up to Rs 90 now. It was brought out by an electrician cum builder that in the past many wanted luxurious lives but now after the Coronavirus pandemic the people are struggling to make both ends meet and have financial issues. Truth is that many people have shifted to a one bedroom house from 2 bedrooms because of the increase in the cost of the construction materials.
