Set up in an area of 8.3lakh square metres, Amazon`s new office in Chennai is turning many heads now. This largest facility in Tamil Nadu was inaugurated by the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin yesterday. This new Amazon facility was the fourth office set up by the e-commerce giant Amazon in the state. In this new facility as many as 6000 employees could work together. It was in the year 2005 Amazon first began its operations in Tamil Nadu with just 50 employees. It is now revealed that Amazon has more than 14000 employees in TN.
Mr. Vinod Matthews, director, Amazon Global Real Estate and Facilities explained about how the new office that was inaugurated was a proof of their growth and commitment to TN.
It is noteworthy that several technologies, engineering devices etc operated from the offices in Chennai. There are 2 offices for Amazon in OMR and in Coimbatore etc. Truth is Amazon has 4 fulfilment centres and 3 sort centres. The first device manufacturing unit was set up in 2021 in Chennai is known fact. This unit produces many Fire Stick TV devices. The state-of-art infrastructural design present in the new building is superb. It would help in 23% reduction in energy consumption and 76% reduction in drinking water consumption.
