In a few more days, a new landmark would be inaugurated by the chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin. The Chennai Square when opened would be stunning with fountains, pergolas, landscaping and seating arrangements etc. The landscape around the highly popular Chennai Central railway station has been transformed by this superb new facility. It is a well known fact that this important railway station in Chennai is always crowded with passengers and others etc.
It is learnt that this Central Square (planned as multi-modal hub) was created at a cost of Rs 400 crores and it would provide easy access to RGGGH, Ripon Buildings, MRTS, suburban station, Chennai Central railway station, and Central metro station. Point is that the pedestrian plaza and landscaping of the area were completed to beautify and revamp the location in the first phase.
It is important to note that the greenery in front of Ripon Buildings and Victoria Hall has been re-designed. There are 2 fountains one each in front of Ripon Buildings and a multi level car parking area. It is noteworthy that 3 bus bays in the area have been refurbished.
Thousands of passengers hereafter could feel relaxed because seats have been put in the pedestrian plaza created in front of the Central railway station. To provide shade in the summer seasons, pergolas have been created also.
As per an officer belonging to GCC, creepers would be there over the pergolas after some time. In addition, subways have been renovated and made wider and the subways would form a connecting link between Central station and RGGGH, Chennai Central metro station. Persons from Ripon buildings would be able to reach the Central station easily. It was mentioned by an official that this area witnesses a huge number of passengers and hence uplifting the area look was considered.
