In association with Kew Gardens belonging to London, the government of TN would be setting up a new botanical garden near Chennai. An amount of Rs 300 crores would be spent on this. Detailed project report or DPR would be prepared. On Friday, 18March 2022, this was announced by the finance minister at the Assembly.
Remodelling of the popular Guindy Children�s Park would be carried out. At an estimated amount of Rs 20 crores a Children�s National Park would be set up and this would have birds, animals and butterflies etc. the major objective behind this was to create awareness among the children regarding forests and wildlife etc. To recommend policy changes for forest conservation, green cover expansion, involvement of tribal people in the forest management, prevention of man-animal conflicts etc forest commission would be st up by the TN government.
To fund climate change initiatives, mitigation etc, TN Green Climate Change Fund would also be set up by the TN government. Resources from various sources like development finance institutions and international climate funds would be mobilised by the fund. It is learnt that for the conservation of animals expansion of habitat would be carried out and to spread awareness among the public, teh TN govt would implement �Project NlgiriTahr� with an initial allocation of Rs 10 crores.
