Traveling along the corporation road at Perungudi is really back breaking!!
This important road here has not been re-laid for a long time and is filled with potholes and craters etc. This 500m corporation road is an important link to residential colonies plus schools and hospitals in Perungudi and Thoraipakkam. It must be noted that at any given time of the day atleast 5 tanker lorry�s ply on the stretch. It is known that this road connects Perungudi dumpyard with the bay area of CMWSSB. The shocking truth is that some potholes are more than 2 feet deep here.
According to a resident belonging to Perungudi, there has been an issue with the underground metro water pipes. He threw light regarding how every time the civic body lays road here pipelines break within a few months and road caves in. The repeated occurance of road caving in has stopped the corporation from laying roads here 5 years back.
Another resident mentioned that motorists here had to fight heavy dust while traveling along this stretch in Perungudi. She added that in the evenings it would not be possible to see the vehicles coming from the opposite side due to the dust storm. She concluded that long term exposure to dust would lead to serious health issues. It is important to note that the stretch has got 2 hospitals, 2 private schools and a park. The hotel owners here are unhappy regarding their business that has been suffering due to poor roads and dust.
An officer belonging to GCC revealed that nearly 10 pipelines that are atleast 25 years old run underground. He explained that each time the road was laid these pipelines break one after another. Information is that new pipelines would be laid by the metro water board and new roads would be laid once the work about laying new pipelines gets over.
