The vaccination for children in the age group 15 to 18 has been going on now in full flow in the state of Tamil Nadu. Till Wednesday, a total of 12.84lakh doses have been administered to these school going children. In another 10 days, the total eligible population of 33.20 lakh would be administered with the first vaccine dose. The truth is that now the health workers who have been vaccinating the children are facing some hesitancy from the parents as these parents are not sure.
The adverse effects post vaccination is cited as the main reason for the hesitancy of many parents. It is brought out by some health authorities that parents have requested a special camp near their localities due to the fear of adverse effects post vaccination.
According to a teacher from Kilpauk based school, some parents were worried about medications their children were taking whereas other parents were worried about reaction sickness that might affect the performance of their children in the forthcoming examinations. The daily allocation of vaccine doses is limited now and due to this the authorities are phasing vaccination. Information gathered is that many schools now administer just 100 doses per day only.
It was later mentioned by a student belonging to a school in Aminjikarai in Chennai that he got Covaxin shot and his classmates were not yet vaccinated as their parents were not allowing them to get vaccinated. He revealed that his school authorities have clearly told the students to get vaccinated if they wanted to appear for the examinations.
