Why the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road on OMR has become a death trap for motorists now?

If you have traveled through the arterial road connecting the airport with the IT corridor along the OMR, then you would have witnessed darkness!!
During the road expansion works in this important Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, damage was caused to the street lights and to the underground utilities etc. This has not been set right till now. The rides along this stretch on OMR have become very difficult for the motorists due to lack of lights. It is shocking to note that not even a single streetlight on the 2km stretch under Tambaram municipality is functioning now.
As per some residents, the stretch has become a death trap for motorists due to poor visibility and bad maintenance. Truth is that recently, 2 bikers died in an accident here. It was pointed out by a resident activist belonging to Chrompet that motorists, especially two wheeler riders do not have any idea about the potholes, bumps or open drains in this place.
He later revealed how basic facilities like traffic signals and drains were not available. In addition, many truck drivers park their vehicles illegally on extreme left lanes on both sides. Free traffic flow is not possible here. It must be noted that in 2018-19 the state highways department began converting this stretch into 6lane stretch at an amount of Rs 35 crores.
As per an official belonging to the state highways department, the damage to the electric cables were inevitable during the road expansion. He then revealed that the local body was asked to repair the electric cables and the highways department would pay the bill amount.
